Ms. Grant is an experienced trial lawyer who has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts. In 2007, Ms. Grant received a California Lawyer Attorney of the Year Award for her work as the lead trial lawyer in Savaglio, et al. v. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., in which she obtained a $172 million verdict against Wal-Mart on behalf of over 116,000 class members after a four month jury trial. The National Law Journal ranked the Savaglio verdict as the tenth largest in 2005, and the largest verdict in an employment law case during that same year. Following a subsequent bench trial, Ms. Grant obtained a permanent injunction against Wal-Mart that required the retailer to implement various policies and practices designed to secure its future compliance with California law.
More recently, in November 2008, Ms. Grant successfully defended Intel Corporation and several other defendants in a four-week jury trial in the District Court for the Northern District of California against claims of fraud, unjust enrichment, breach of contract and related patent claims where the plaintiff sought in excess of $450 million, exclusive of punitive damages. Following the jury trial, the Court dismissed all remaining state law claims against the defendants based on plaintiff's failure to provide sufficient evidence at trial to support his claims.
Named one of the "Top Women Litigators in California" by the Daily Journal (2007), and one of the "Best Lawyers in the Bay Area" by Bay Area Lawyer Magazine (2005), Ms. Grant currently serves as a Mediator for the San Francisco Superior Court Early Settlement Program and has taught Mediation as an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law. Ms. Grant was also recently featured in the California Lawyer magazine article "Rivals: Can Determined Adversaries Turn Into Friendly Foes" discussing relations among opposing counsel.
Ms. Grant has lectured widely on a number of topics including trial practice, class action law and employment matters. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the Legal Aid Society of San Francisco and is an active member of California Women Lawyers, the National Association of Women Judges, Queen's Bench and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
