DePuy Hip Implant Recall
On August 26, 2010, DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, announced a recall of its ASR XL Acetabular System and DePuy ASRHip Resurfacing System used in hip replacement surgery. New, unpublished data from the National Joint Registry of England and Wales shows a five-year failure rate of approximately 12% for the ASR Hip Resurfacing System and approximately 13% for the ASRTM XL Acetabular System. There have been many complaints regarding the DePuy hip replacement products. Yet, the recalled was made public after DePuy announced it was phasing out these products.
Individual lawsuits have already been filed alleging that DePuy wrongfully concealed the defective nature of their hip replacement. These patients are seeking damages arising out of the defective DePuy hip replacement including pain and suffering.
